Soooo, there is a question….Why is arsenate poisonous to us humans? This is because arsenate bothers lol enters the glycolysis pathway 😦 It attaches at step 6. Gonna post a picture in my next post of the pathway for u folks who cant remember. When arsenate attcahes at this step it replaces phosphate gaving 1-arseno 3 phosphoglycerate instead of 1,3 bisphosphate glycerate. A high energy bond forms, since arsenate is very sensitive to water, water hydrolyses the bond gaving the product which would usually be formed in step 7 ( 3 phosphoglycerate). This is a problem because the product forms before it should and therefore does not reach the enzyme so the enegry released cannot be harvested to generated ATP. Arsenate wastes energy by the uncoupling phosphotransfer reaction so its very POISONOUS.
The video is very informative and well explained although he could have did a better representation of the steps of glycolysis and better diagram such as slides or something to make the video more appealing.
